It’s been 3 months now since we arrived in Valencia, and we are very happy with our decision to move here. The city is beautiful and there is so much going on, whether you are interested in history, music, or food to name but a few. Here are our highlights so far.

Celebrating San Juan
Everyone knows the Spaniards love their celebrations, especially outdoor parties and festivals. On the evening of 23rd June everyone in Valencia flocks to the beach to celebrate St John the Baptist. It is a fun filled night with bonfires everywhere to be seen, fireworks going off and people running into the sea as it turns midnight. I love this aspect of Spain, everyone coming together and having fun, whatever the occasion.
Yoga on the beach
We’d been wanting to try yoga for a while, and our first time doing it was in June on the beach. We went to a sunset/full moon class and it was really relaxing hearing the crashing of the waves on a cool summer’s evening. We are now going to make it a weekly thing, as the same instructor does classes every Sunday in the park. For more information visit Jennison’s Facebook page.
Eating paella where it originated
Paella actually originated close to Albufera, a lake south of Valencia. When my Dad came to visit we took him to get some paella around that area and it was so delicious. We’ll definitely be heading back there when we have more visitors! Read more: Day out to Albufera.
Exploring the vegetarian scene
We became vegetarian a few months ago, and we have been very pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to be veggie here. Vegetarianism and veganism is growing a lot here at the minute, with lots of restaurants to choose from and interesting events going on. We’ve been to a few vegetarian and vegan events which have been a great chance to try some delicious food, browse products and meet people from animal charities.
Live music at the City of Arts and Sciences
Recently we’ve been to a couple of outdoor concerts performed by students from the Berklee College of Music. The performers are very talented and mostly play jazz music, which is perfect for the relaxing setting and beautiful backdrop of the City of Arts and Sciences.
